Politics as Usual

So, the past several weeks I've been out campaigning for a seat on the local Castle Pines North Metro District Board. I took an honest and straight forward approach to the issues our community is facing with regard to building the infrastructure for renewable water, high fees and good home values. My focus was on communication and making sure everyone understood where the board was heading and how that impacted the residents of CPN. I spent many hours on my bicycle riding around neighborhoods talking with people and sharing my platform. Considering the amount of effort I put forth I thought for certain I would have had a good chance at winning one of 3 seats available. Turns out I was wrong, way wrong! No matter how hard you work at something if you are not connected with the "in" crowd, there is a minimal chance of winning an election. Apparently, I was not on the email blast that went to hundreds of potential voters and as a result, I received 36 out of 208 votes. Simply embarrassing to say the least and disappointing considering how hard I worked to make something happen. Like my father says, "work smarter, not harder!" But, at least I had 36 people (including myself) think I was worth their time and to those of you who voted for me, I'm grateful!

Ultimately, I learned another valuable lesson in life and I'm on my way to being like President Lincoln someday, winning when it counts most!
